About Me

I was born in San Diego, California, but raised in a tiny town in Southern Illinois. No matter where I travel or move to, Allendale will hold a special place in my heart.

Most of my family is still there. My mom and dad have been so gracious to me, putting a roof over my head during the entire Peace Corps application process. Sounds pitiful for a college grad, right? They never made me feel that way, though, and have been encouraging to my adventurous side, even though it makes them sad to see me go. Props to my baby brother, Jackson, as well. He is the last one of us at home and he puts up with me a lot... most likely because I make him lunch some days, but I'll take it. He really is the best kid ever. I hope you all have had the chance of meeting him.

Though gone from the house, my other brother Michael lives just down the road with a family of his own. I couldn't be more thrilled to have Johnie (his woman) and her son Jaxin (yes, now we have two) in our lives. That is saying a lot because I am so picky for Michael. He is one of those guys that you talk to for a second and can't help but think, "Wow, he is an awesome guy. How is he ever going to find someone as cool as he is to marry?" Johnie is that woman! I tell Michael that I'm glad they are getting hitched because I would be best friends with her anyway. I welcome my new sister with open arms!

Speaking of sisters, there is one more Marcotte that has traveled far away. Orlando, Florida is not quite as far as Uganda, but far nonetheless. She went away to work a semester at Disney and fell in love with the Sunshine State. She is amazing. Completely opposite of me and yet my best friend. I couldn't ask for a better little sister.

Now I cannot talk about family without mentioning my Greenville family. The Ackermans and the Greenville College Volleyball team took me in under their wing about seven years ago and they haven't let me go since then. I wouldn't ever want them to. I gained a Coach and a Carrie, four brothers, and more sisters than I can count. They all hold such a special place in my heart. I can't imagine looking back on my life and not having the memories I have made with them.

You may wonder why I talked all about my family in the "About Me" section, but if you are asking, you don't understand the importance of family in the grand scheme of who you are, no matter if the influence is good or bad. These people have shaped me. They have helped me to get the reigns on my personality and taught me the importance of character. They have shown me selfless love, and taught me daily how to bestow it upon others. They have believed in me from day one, standing behind me as I make life decisions. They have shown me what it means to serve others and for that I am truly grateful. I love them. I cant wait to share what they have taught me with the people of Uganda.
